How to play
Type any five-letter word and press Enter. Each letter then changes color: green if it is in the word and in the right spot, yellow if it is in the word but somewhere else, and gray if it is not in the word at all. Use those clues to narrow down the answer. You have six guesses.
Repeated letters follow the same rule as the answer. If you guess a word with two Es and the answer has only one, only one of your Es lights up.
Strategy that works
- Open with common letters. Starters built from E, A, R, O, T, L and S rule out or confirm the most of the alphabet in one go.
- Use your second guess to explore. A word with five fresh letters often teaches you more than a guess that reuses confirmed ones.
- Watch for double letters. When you are stuck with many options, words like sheep and teeth are easy to overlook.
